BUMP IN THE ROAD: The Knights lost in a tight home game against Cedar Creek this Tuesday night by a final score of 49-48.

Senior Felix Kahlor said the team’s biggest shortcoming was a lack of aggressiveness on both offense and defense.

“As a team we needed to hit some more shots and stay solid defensively,” Kahlor said, “but unfortunately we got lazy at times, and that caused us to make some bad decisions both on offense and defense.”

Kahlor said the team felt optimistic going into the game after beating Cedar Creek 67-41 on Jan. 3 and coming off a streak of wins, but after falling behind it was hard for the team to catch up.

“We felt pretty confident as we’d beat [Cedar Creek] before and had just come off a good win again against Anderson,” Kahlor said. “I think as a team and as individuals it had been awhile since we were in a game where we were trailing for the majority, so it was hard for us to do what we usually do, and there was more pressure on us.”

The loss breaks the Knights’ district winning streak at 28 games. However, Kahlor said the team will be able to easily shake off the loss and remain focused on the goal of winning playoffs.

“The playoffs has been our biggest goal all season, and one loss doesn’t define us or change our mindset,” Kahlor said. “We’re a confident team that can play with anyone.”

The varsity Knights (8-1) next play Bastrop (1-9) away on Tuesday at 8 p.m. The Eagles (7-3) meanwhile followed their signature win with a 60-56 home victory over LASA that dropped the Raptors (7-2) out of a first-place tie with the Knights. The Eagles are off on Tuesday but host Crockett (4-5) on Friday. The Knights finish the regular season with a road game against Navarro (1-9) on Friday and a home game against LASA on Tuesday.
