Spackenkill raced to a five-point in the opening minutes then Haldane surged, going up by eight in the second quarter, before the Spartans answered and eventually forced a back-and-forth.

“Basketball is a game of runs,” Luke Bozsik said, “so you can’t overreact to a team getting hot or your team not doing well for a little while.”

Bozsik had 22 points and four steals to lead the Blue Devils, who beat Spackenkill for the second straight season in this tournament. They did that with a shorthanded frontcourt as Fallou Faye, a defensive standout, was limited because of early foul trouble.
