We’re excited to introduce Captain Anthony J. Dotson, one of our esteemed speakers for the 2025 birminghamblackmalesummit!

With over 22 years of service in law enforcement, Captain Dotson has dedicated his career to serving his community and ensuring justice is upheld. He currently serves as the Commander (Captain) of the Bessemer Criminal and Civil Divisions at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, where he’s made a lasting impact with his leadership, earning three letters of commendation for outstanding performance in the line of duty.

A graduate of Miles College with a degree in Political Science, Captain Dotson’s extensive experience includes overseeing units such as Youth Services, Narcotics, and Victim Assistance. He’s led innovative initiatives like a task force to combat violent crime in Fairfield and Bessemer, and his work has led to substantial improvements in community safety.

Captain Dotson’s qualifications are extensive—he’s a Licensed Polygraph Examiner, Crisis Intervention Team Member, and FBI National Academy candidate—demonstrating his commitment to continuous growth in law enforcement. He’s also an active member of several influential organizations, including NOBLE, FEMA, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

He believes that justice is best served when law enforcement is equipped with the right tools, information, and training—and he’s passionate about making a difference.
