State Champions Again! Girls 200-Free Relay Brings Home the Gold for Riverwood. Read Coach Hickey’s final wrap-up of the Swim Season below. ⤵️

——

Thanks to the fantastic efforts of four young lady Raiders, the Riverwood Girls’ Swim Team capped another top ten finish at the annual State Championships, this time 7th place in the 5A division.

Freshman Skyelar Richards, Sophomores Caroline Kittrell and Katie Kessell, and Senior Kenzie Robinson scored all 189 points in eight individual events and two relays. And what relays they were!

In the 200 Freestyle Relay, the foursome came from behind in stunning fashion to out touch favorite Lassiter by .03 seconds, with Kenzie swimming an amazing 22.87 in the final leg to overtake her competition. In doing so, the team set a new school record of 1:36.73, besting the mark set at the same meet last year. This is the second year in a row that Riverwood has won this event. We thought last year was close at a .22 second difference against the same Lassiter team, but this year was a real nail biter.

In the last event of the year, the 400 Freestyle Relay, the ladies placed 7th, just missing the fantastic record they set the night before, where they bested the previous mark by almost 5 seconds.

In individual events:

🔹Kenzie placed 2nd in the 50 Free and 10th in the 100 Back

🔹Skyelar placed 3rd in the 50 Free and 5th in the 100 Free

🔹Katie placed in the 200 Free and 9th in the 100 Back

🔹Caroline placed in the 200 IM and 17th in the 500 Free

Lassiter won the meet, followed by Pope and Johns Creek. Congratulations!

🔹In the Boys’ competition, our only scorer was Sophomore David Randolph, who placed 2nd in 1 meter diving, scoring 21 points, good for 25th place.

Each one of five scorers at state is an example of talent, time and dedication to their sport. You can’t get this far without this combination. In addition to that, and even better, like all of the students on our team, they are fine young people. Thanks to all of our Riverwood Swim and Dive athletes for a fun, successful season!
