SENIOR KNIGHT: The varsity girls basketball team held its Senior Knight after its last game before playoffs on Tuesday. The team lost against the Bastrop Bears but still was able to have a successful Senior Knight to honor this program’s seniors and their hard work through the entire season. 

Senior Sonya Petersen said she appreciated how much work the underclassmen put in to make the night special. 

“My favorite part was the gifts the underclassmen made for us and how much effort they put into our poster and our baskets and the organization of the whole thing,” Petersen said. “I think they did a really good job this year, and I’m really grateful.” 

Although excited for her future, Petersen said she’s feeling sad about leaving the basketball community at McCallum behind. 

“I have so many amazing memories from basketball and have learned so many lessons and will miss it so much,” Petersen said. “My favorite part has been the community and all the amazing teammates and coaches I’ve met through the program. I look forward to coming back and watching the team play next year. I know that they will do amazing things.”

Moving forward, the team is gearing up for playoffs with their first game against Georgetown being held this Monday at Westwood High School. 

“We’re just focused on that first game and seeing if we can upset them and win that one, so we’ve been preparing the last couple of practices for that,” Petersen said. “We’re just going to take it one step at a time and see if we can get through the Monday night game.”
