A FRESH ROTATION: The JV Knights boys basketball team played the Navarro Vikings Friday night. Although the team started slowly with a pedestrian first quarter, the team gradually built a lead over the course of the game, ultimately winning 55-21. 

While it was a JV game, the Knight roster featured several freshman team players who suited up for the JV game. 

Freshman Vance Reining, one of the freshman team regulars who played in the JV game, said that the team did not play its best in the first half.
 
“Even though we were up by 20, we still felt we could’ve played better,” Reinig said “We were fouling too much and didn’t play super great defense.”

Sophomore Ben Cook agreed.

“Throughout the game I felt good; however, I feel that we probably could’ve played better,” Cook said. “We fouled a lot and that led to free throws for the other team.”

The Knights pulled away in the second half thanks to some halftime adjustments. Reinig says that they fixed their defense, which also allowed for the Knights to build a more comfortable lead and expand their rotation on the floor. 

“We definitely tightened up our defense, but in the second half we weren’t really focused on playing well,” Reinig said. “We were more focused on getting some of the players who haven’t played a lot in the game. That was really cool to see.” Reinig said.

The freshmen and the JV Knights will be back in their familiar roles tonight as the boys basketball program plays its final regular season game. The freshman and JV teams hope to end their 2024-2025 season with a rivalry win over the LASA Raptors at home. The freshman kick off the tripleheader at 5:15 p.m. followed by the JV at 6:30 p.m.

The varsity game will tip off at 8 p.m. The Raptors (9-2) can earn a share of the district title with a win over the varsity (10-1). The varsity will earn a second straight outright district title with a win, which would also complete a season sweep of LASA.
