Aveda has always been vegetarian and cruelty-free The only ingredients that have kept them from being fully vegan is beeswax and honey. 

Aveda evaluated 900 ingredients over three years to be able to replace the beeswax and honey so they can become 100% vegan. Aveda created a unique blend of plant-based butters and waxes to substitute.
