Marco Nuñez has committed to play baseball for Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. He was recruited as a catcher and first baseman for the Lynx, who compete in the Southern Athletic Association.

Marco has been a starter on the Varsity team all four of his years at Riverwood, and helped lead the team to a state playoff spot in 2022. He has been selected as an All-Region player for the past three years, including receiving first-team honors in his junior season and earning Riverwood’s Silver Slugger award. Marco serves as a team captain and is a leader for the younger catchers in the program. He is proud of the 74 hits he’s amassed during his Raider career and is hoping to get to 100 this season.

Marco was also a recipient of a Latino Athletic MVP Scholarship through the Atlanta Braves Organization after a multi-step process, including an academic review, recommendations, essays, skill observation, and more.

Marco has also played for Ninth Inning Baseball and Pro Stock Baseball. He says they were crucial to his development and recruiting process. He’d also like to thank all of his coaches who helped him develop as a player and the person he is today, especially Riverwood’s Coach Byrd and Coach Hope; Coach David Sopilka, Coach Mark Gleason; his hitting coach Andres Fernandez for helping and supporting him throughout the journey; and a big shoutout to his mentor Mateo. Finally, he would like to thank his parents for always believing in him and for always supporting him and never missing a game.

Marco is an honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society. He also serves as a student ambassador for Riverwood.

Marco said Rhodes felt like a good fit because of the coaching staff and beautiful campus. He plans to major in business and minor in media studies and is looking forward to joining the baseball team and making an impact as a freshman.
