WARM CUP O CUPID: Leading up to Valentine’s Day, sophomore student council members have been selling hot cocoa before school in a fundraiser to raise money for their future prom. The fundraiser was called “Cup O’ Cupid” and was set up at two tables by the office and breezeway on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The fundraiser was one of many hosted by the sophomore class this year and helped them inch towards the goal for senior year prom.

Berit Ellwanger, student council vice president, played a role in helping to organize the event.

“Selling little cups of cheer and cozy felt like a good idea because it’s super cold out so we were just like, why don’t we get a warm little treat for everyone?” Ellwanger said.

With the online and cash profits included, the fundraiser managed to raise $339, which Ellwanger believes was a successful outcome.

“Judging by the amount of money we made, it went quite well, actually,” Ellwanger said. “I know we made $260 in cash, but then we also had an online service.”

Though the event generated plenty of money, planning and running it took a lot of work and didn’t run perfectly smoothly.

“So I think probably the transport of materials, that was really hard.” Ellwanger said. “And one time we forgot the whipped cream, and it was disastrous”

Even with some hardships, Ellwanger enjoyed putting on the fundraiser and providing cups of hot cocoa to her peers.

“I enjoyed getting to work with my wonderful peers and getting to just make everyone happy with hot cocoa,” Ellwanger said. “I think it went well, it built a lot of community.”

The sophomore student council members would like to thank heb for supporting the sophomore class by donating many of the supplies and ingredients necessary for the fundraiser.
