## Caption

Despite their name arising from the Greek for “river horse,” hippopotamuses can't actually swim—instead, they walk or run along the bottom of riverbeds. They can even do so for up to five minutes while fully submerged underwater because they can shut their ears and nostrils tight to keep the water out.
