CREW SPOTLIGHT

🌟 We’re highlighting some of the regular faces seen on our sets that make every project possible. This week, we’re spotlighting Director of Photography, josiah_duncan!

🎥 Who is Josiah?
Josiah comes from a blended background of music, Army, and a strong interest in tech. Fascinated with the intricacies of narrative filmmaking, Josiah has been learning how to make films through experience since high school. He began freelancing during his time at Ball State, and started working as a narrative DP in 2018 for several VetTV shows. He currently runs two small video production companies: Task Force for broadcast commercials, and Kinetic Arts for multi-media and narrative projects, while also working on several productions throughout the year with Adam at Fierce Little Bird.

🔧 What makes their role special?
As a Director of Photography, Josiah's responsibility on set is to craft the visual image through the use of camera positioning, lenses, and lighting choices. On a larger set, the DP runs both the camera and lighting departments to customize the visuals to best serve the story being told. Experienced working with a wide variety of directing styles, Josiah’s DP method adapts to the director’s style to best suit the story or mission, with the goal of taking technical worries away from the director so that they can focus on action and performances.

🌐 A favorite moment or project?
"I think my favorite project would have to be SLAY, a 48hr film festival submission where I convinced Adam that it was 'imperative to the story' that he act as a tiny flamboyant dancer since the genre was Dark Comedy, which led to a lot of laughs at 3am when he was being taught to twerk for the first time on camera."
