FOURTH PLACE AFTER UIL STATE PRELIMS: Junior Iris Burns-Trahanovsky dives into the water during the girls one-meter diving competition at the UIL State Championship this afternoon at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Burns-Trahanovsky competed in the preliminary round today, and is currently in fourth place out of 24 divers total. Tomorrow afternoon Burns-Trahanovsky will compete in the finals round at the meet.

This is Burn-Trahanovsky’s third time competing at the UIL state meet. According to Burns-Trahanovsky, the meet went pretty well overall. 

“There were some dives that were a little rough, but overall, it went pretty well,” Burns-Trahanovsky said. “I felt pretty good considering I haven’t been doing my dives for very long.”

Burn-Trahanovsky’s favorite part of the whole meet so far has been her last dive. 

“It was simple, but I just did it really well, and it was very clean,” Burns-Trahanovsky said.

Burns-Trahanovsky’s biggest challenge has been getting back into the competition after an injury with her hand. Despite this challenge, Burns-Trahanovsky was still able to place fourth in the preliminary rounds, and is really looking forward to competing tomorrow. 

“I’ve got some dives that I think are gonna go pretty well, and I think it’ll be exciting,” Burns-Trahanovsky siad. “It’s finals, and everybody’s pretty close together, so there’ll be lots of good dives.”
