Meet Nina Pollak ’26, a political science and Spanish double major making her study abroad dreams come true in Granada, Spain, through the IES Abroad Liberal Arts & Language program.

Nina’s days are filled with immersive Spanish classes, fascinating courses, and an internship as an English teaching assistant. Nina lives with a host family, enjoying daily Spanish conversations and discovering the beauty of Granada’s culture.

“Granada is magical!” Nina says. “You will instantly fall in love with the árboles de naranjas that line the streets and the city’s rich history with its fusion of Moorish and Spanish influences. The charm of Granada is undeniable.”

Nina’s mornings start around 7:15 a.m. when she gets ready and eats breakfast before she walks to the IES Abroad Center. She alternates between two and four classes a day, and in between, she either grabs coffee with friends, fits in a gym session, or eats lunch with her host family.

Nina says her host family is the highlight of her time in Granada. “We have lunch together every day and speak only in Spanish, which has helped boost my confidence,” she says. “I can feel my Spanish improving little by little!”

Twice a week, Nina also walks to her internship as an English teaching assistant, which she says “has been both fun and rewarding. It’s helped me build problem-solving skills in Spanish, too.”

Evenings are typically filled with soccer, art classes, or tapas with friends. Oh, and Nina walks around 9 miles a day. It turns out Granada has built-in cardio!

Overall, Nina is loving her time abroad and encourages others to do the same. “If you’re nervous about studying abroad, don’t worry, that feeling is normal! But don’t let it stop you from embarking on this amazing journey,” she says. “Take it from the new girl who missed orientation and showed up two weeks late: This is an adventure you won’t regret. You’ll meet amazing people, indulge in fabulous food, and discover something new about the city and yourself every single day!”

Stay tuned for Nina’s Tiger Takeover next week to see more of her daily adventures!
