The Chicago, IL native enrolled at Memphis as a Graduate Transfer after a breakout season at UIC last year. Damaria was a Horizon League All-Conference selection in 2021-22.

He started 26 games while making 28 total appearances in his first season with the Flames. Damaria led the team in scoring (17.8) and rebounding (6.9) and scored in double figures in all but two contests during the season. He collected a team-leading four double-doubles on the year, including a season-high 14 rebounds to go along with 18 points against Detroit Mercy. Damaria scored a season-high 28 points in an overtime victory at Robert Morris, finishing with 11 made field goals and five made 3-pointers (both matching a season-best). He dished out a season-best six assists on two separate occasions. Franklin finished the year fifth in the conference in scoring average, ninth in rebound average, and seventh in blocks per game. His 10 games with 20 or more points were the sixth most in the league while four double-doubles were ninth-most. 

According to cerebrosports he recorded a 9.4 C-RAM (C-RAM is a composite score that contextualizes a player's overall performance within the event/season and breaks it down on a clean scale ranging from 0 to 10+.) and showcased himself as one of college basketball’s elite scoring & defending guards.
