Nearing the end of district play, the boys varsity soccer team played the Crockett Cougars for the second time last Wednesday. They won the sequel, 4-0. This game was particularly special for the team, as it was senior night. Every senior was recognized by friends and family before the game, and the seniors got the chance to start the game, excluding one who could not start because he was given a red card the previous game. 

Senior outside back Manu Perez, who has been a part of the program for his entire high school career, said this game was special to him and all of his senior teammates as they were celebrated by the entire team.

“Being honored on senior night was a very good feeling,” Perez said. “The recognition itself was cool, but doing it with my family and seeing my friends there made it much more special.”

The first time the Knights played Crockett in district play, they won 3-0, and this past game, they added an extra goal for a 4-0 win. Perez thinks they played equally well this time but were motivated to score more.

“Crockett is one of the easier teams in the district, but that doesn’t mean it would be a free win,” he said. “We still had to fight and wanted to win.” 

He added that this game showcased the skills and the talents of the Knights, to show other teams that they were in it to win it.

“The game versus Crockett showed how powerful we all are as a team when we are mentally in the right space going into the game,” he said. 

Perez said getting to play with all of his senior friends at the beginning of the game was fun, as it gave everyone a chance to play together for one of the last times.

“It was very fun to play with all the seniors,” he said. “Most of the people I’ve played with for multiple years.”

Overall, Perez is happy with how the season has gone so far, and is looking forward to playoffs. 

“The season has gone well, and the team is happy with our performance, so far despite having multiple ties,” he said. “We move forward and look to win the rest of our games.”
