A secondary bathroom should feel just as elevated as the rest of your home, but that doesn’t mean you need to overspend. 

Here are our tips on where to invest and where to save to get the most out of your budget:

- Keep the plumbing where it is. Moving water lines drives up costs fast. Instead, try to keep a similar layout and upgrade your plumbing to quality fixtures in classic chrome or polished nickel for a clean, timeless look.

- Skip custom cabinets – Opt for a well-made prefabricated/stocked vanity with soft-close drawers, then upgrade the hardware and countertop (you can look for quartz remnants with fabricators, or use leftover stone from another area in the house) to elevate it.

- Use affordable tile in a custom layout. Basic materials can look more high-end when installed in a stacked, herringbone, or offset pattern. A contrasting grout detail is also a great idea we see many designers go for.

- Know where to splurge – It could be a marble mosaic floor, framed mirror, or intricate lighting. When you’re on a budget, choosing 1 thing will do the trick without taxing your finances.

- Lighting matters – There are so many great vendors out there offering affordable decorative lighting. But overhead lights aren’t enough. Sconces, recessed lighting, and dimmers create the perfect balance of function and style.
