Two things that we reiterate to our goaltenders day after day are these points:

• The hardest skill to master is knowing when to move and how much to move.
• Cut the ice in half to simplify your movement choices.

With the skill set of goaltenders exploding over the last two decades, shooters have learned that deception is a paramount skill for them to possess. The key is understanding it’s how much the puck moves and where it is located that predicates how much you move. This is very creative and deceptive release by the Penn State forward, but when you break it down, the puck remains at a deep angle on the strong side post. Goaltenders at the elite level, like Michigan’s goaltender here, will learn from this quickly. Young goaltenders, learn from watching the best in the great things they do and the mistakes that happen.
