MAKING HISTORY: The JV-B soccer team battled host Georgetown to a scoreless tie in its first ever game on Jan. 14. For sophomore Frances Brosnan, the result and the team’s play to earn it were a source of pride.

Before the game Brosnan was nervous since it was their first game together as a team.

“We hadn’t had much practice together so we were nervous,” Brosnan said, “but I was really excited to start the season.”

During the game Brosnan wasn’t as intimidated as she had anticipated.

“Once I was out there playing I realized it was more fun than scary,” Brosnan said. “I felt much more confident towards the end of it.”

Brosnan said the team’s positive attitude and hard work paid off.

“I was really proud of our teamwork after the game,” Brosnan said. “We tied but Georgetown is a really good school so that in itself felt like a win.”

According to Brosnan, the biggest challenge that the team faced was communication. Considering this was the team’s first live action together, some miscommunication was to be expected.

“There were a lot of moments where three people would go to the ball because no one would call it,” Brosnan said, “so communication is definitely something we needed to work on.”

Throughout the game Brosnan loved watching the defense play such a strong game.

“They stayed super strong the whole game,” Brosnan said. “We didn’t let any goals up against a really hard team which I was really proud of.”

The team has built upon this strong debut and has a chance on Wednesday to make history in their season finale against Bastrop.

“If JV-B wins or ties against Bastrop on Wednesday, they will finish the season undefeated as well as district champs,” varsity head coach Jason Rich told the Shield.

Rich also pointed out that the JV-B team earned a tournament title by finishing first at the Bastrop Invitational Tournament earlier this season.

Not bad for a first season.
