## Caption

A House hearing was abruptly adjourned on Tuesday after Rep. Keith Self (R-TX) misgendered Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE), Congress’ first openly transgender member. When Rep. William Keating (D-MA) asked Self to repeat his introduction and identify McBride by her preferred pronouns, Self once again did not, prompting Keating to come to McBride’s defense and tell Self that he was “out of order."

Self responded to a video of the confrontation on X, saying it’s the “policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female.” McBride also responded on X, saying, “No matter how I’m treated by some colleagues, nothing diminishes my awe and gratitude to represent Delaware in Congress.” #house #delaware #sarahmcbride #congress #texas #massachusetts
