Nikki Giovanni (6.7.1943 – 12.9.2024) was an American poet, writer, commentator, activist, and educator, known for her contributions to the Black Arts Movement and her work on race, social issues, and children’s literature. 

Nikki Giovanni was also an honorary member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a legacy that extended, as her mother and sister were also members. She was inducted into honorary membership during the 32nd National Convention in August 1973.
