For Constable Karli Foster and First Constable James Hammond, it’s often the unexpected thanks that make it all worth it. ⁣
⁣
After being called to assist an elderly man who woke to a stranger standing in his bedroom, Karli and James checked his home and stayed back to reassure he was safe after a rather triggering encounter. ⁣
⁣
It was during their extended chat that they learnt he had been the victim of an armed robbery leaving him without money or a passport when travelling in England years ago with friends.⁣
⁣
Without a second thought, both Karli and James stayed longer to take his mind off the incident. ⁣
⁣
To their surprise and delight a few days later they received an email from the man praising their assistance on the day of the aggravated burglary.⁣
⁣
'It is my wish to compliment the two police officers that attended my home. The whole experience was heartening and very reassuring. The officers were very polite and friendly, and quickly established that there was not a second intruder ... All I can do is thank them very much for their excellent service and timely response.'⁣
⁣
Unfortunately not everyone they help is so thoughtful, but for Karli it's the appreciation of a small percentage of victims that 'make the other jobs worth it.”⁣

James agreed, saying helping those in need is rewarding and it’s why 'our job matters'.⁣
