The Northwestern University School of Communication will hit a high note this spring when Tony and Grammy Award-winning singer and actor heatherheadley (C96) presides over graduates as their 2025 Convocation speaker.

Headley, whose remarkable career has spanned screen and stage, will join Dean E. Patrick Johnson in celebrating SoC’s Class of 2025 on Saturday, June 14, at 9 a.m. at the Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston. 

She originated the role of Nala in Broadway’s "The Lion King," and her next role was another big one—the eponymous lead in Elton John and Tim Rice’s "Aida"—which garnered her a thetonyawards for Best Actress in a Musical at the age of 25. Other stage roles include "The Bodyguard" in London’s West End, "The Color Purple" on Broadway, and "Into the Woods" at New York City Center.
