Do We Look to Moses to Please Jesus?

Is the Law still key in the daily life of the believer? Well, the answer might surprise you. Let’s talk Ten Commandments, grace, and why trying to live under even a sliver of the Law is like putting a noose around your own neck.

First, the Law was given to Israel, not us. It’s holy, perfect, and—here’s the kicker—designed to condemn you. Paul calls the Ten Commandments a "ministry of death and condemnation" (2 Cor. 3:7-9). Not my words—his. So why are Christians still flirting with them?

“Thou shalt not covet” is in the Big Ten, right? Paul said that very commandment produced all kinds of coveting in him (Rom. 7:7-8). He’s not saying the Law helped him. He’s saying it made things worse! The Law doesn’t reduce sin—it inflames it.

You can’t pick and choose from the Law like a buffet. James 2:10 says if you keep the whole Law but break one command, you’re guilty of all of it. That means if you cling to the Ten Commandments, you better be ready to obey all 613. Otherwise, step off the sinking ship.

“But the Law helps us live right!” Really? Romans 7:4 says we DIED to the Law so we could bear fruit for God. Apart from the Law, sin is dead (7:8). Law doesn’t curb sin—it fuels it. If you want real transformation, you don’t need Law; you need Jesus.

So what’s our guide? Not Moses. Not the Ten Commandments. Not cherry-picked morality laws. We’re led by the Spirit, and if you’re led by the Spirit, you’re NOT under the Law (Gal. 5:18). Why turn to what Jesus freed us from?

The Law didn’t die—we did. That’s the big twist. We’re dead to the Law, not under it, and not supervised by it (Rom. 7:4, 6:14, Gal. 3:25). Christ is the end of the Law for us (Rom. 10:4). You want upright living? It’s not found in the Law. It’s found in Jesus.

Some will fight to keep Moses alive in their Christian life. But let’s be real: Flirting with Moses is cheating on Jesus (Gal. 5:4). We have something better: the indwelling Christ, His love written on our hearts, and total freedom in Him. Now that’s the Gospel.
