OFFICIAL: The Pre Classic women’s 800m now has a name worthy of its greatest champion–the Mutola 800m. 👑

No athlete has won more at The Prefontaine Classic than Maria Mutola. 16 victories. 12 wins over 800m. A teenager from Mozambique moved to Springfield, Oregon, chased a dream, and made it all the way to Olympic gold.

Now, her signature event will continue to bring the world’s best middle-distance runners to Hayward Field.

There’s no better way to honor an icon.
