Dr. Abdelfatah provides care to people with the following cancers: 
 
• esophageal and stomach 
• liver, gallbladder, and pancreas 
• bile duct and hepatobiliary tract 

With training in both thoracic surgery and surgical oncology, Dr. Abdelfatah specializes in robotic-assisted and laparoscopic surgery and uses the latest minimally invasive techniques to remove tumors while preserving his patients’ quality of life.

For every person they treat Dr. Abdelfatah and his team create a personalized treatment plan tailored to the patient’s goals and lifestyle. Understanding that the cancer journey can be overwhelming, Dr. Abdelfatah guides his patients through informed decision-making with care and compassion. 

*Collaborative Care, Multidisciplinary Treatment*
At NYU Langone, Dr. Abdelfatah is part of a larger team of radiologists, pathologists, oncologists, gastroenterologists, and radiation specialists who collaborate to provide comprehensive care. And because surgery is not always the best or only treatment, Dr. Abdelfatah provides patients with a full range of options to achieve the best possible outcomes. 

Dr. Abdelfatah also sees his patients during postsurgical follow-up appointments to answer their questions, address any concerns that may arise, and help coordinate further treatment. He continues to follow them for years after surgery to monitor them for recurrence. 

*Cancer Research* 
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Abdelfatah performs research the following areas: 

• frailty in patients who have cancer and whether improving physical function before surgery leads to better outcomes 
• peripheral blood markers that may indicate a response to immune therapy in people with cancer
