I’m excited to share a personal chapter of music history that holds a special place in my heart. My father, Harold Ray Brown, co-founded The Creators in 1963, a dynamic R&B band that laid the groundwork for what would later become the iconic group War. As the original drummer, his rhythms were the heartbeat of their early sound.

The Creators were known for their soulful and energetic tracks that captured the essence of the 1960s R&B scene. Some of their notable songs include:

The Creators were an early incarnation of the band that eventually became known as War, a prominent funk group from Long Beach, California. In the mid-1960s, this American R&B group initially performed under the name the Creators. They later changed their name to Nightshift due to members working evening jobs in a steel yard. Ultimately, they adopted the name War to reflect the social and political unrest of the era. The band gained fame in the 1970s with hits like “Low Rider” and “The Cisco Kid,” blending funk, soul, and jazz influences.  

The original lineup of War included:
 • Lonnie Jordan – keyboards and vocals
 • Howard E. Scott – guitar and vocals
 • Charles Miller – saxophone and vocals
 • Harold Brown – drums
 • B.B. Dickerson – bass and vocals
