KICKING OPEN THE NEXT CHAPTER: The girls varsity soccer team played their final match prior to district playoffs last Wednesday. The Knights defeated Bastrop, 5-0. This match was not only McCallum’s final regular season game but their senior night.

One of the three seniors honored was Ashley Mankinen, who has been a part of the varsity team since her freshman year.

“It was fun to be honored for Senior Night,” Mankinen said, “but it was sort of bittersweet to see my high school soccer career coming to an end. I’m gonna be sad to leave all my teammates, but I’m excited for the next chapter of my life.”

For Mankinen, the hardest part of leaving the program will be saying goodbye to the friends she’s made along the way.

“I’m going to miss my teammates the most because I’ve played with a lot of them for several years, and we’ve built a really close community with each other,” she said.

The Knights’ next game will be their first match of district playoffs. Their opponent will be the Pflugerville Panthers, whom they previously tied, 1-1.

“I think going into playoffs we should work on faster transitions,” Mankinen said. “I know that Pflugerville will be a tough game, but I’m excited to see how we do.”

The Knights will play the Pflugerville Panthers on Friday at p.m. at House Park.
