My mentality is something I’ve been focusing on a lot in workouts lately.

One thing I struggle with is feeling “in control” when a workout gets difficult. I have a tendency to judge myself and think things like “it shouldn’t be this hard” or “I won’t be able to maintain this.” Instead of leaning into my performance and effort in the moment, I worry about what might happen later in the workout.

In the last month, I’ve tried to be less judgmental and more accepting of however I feel. Even if the effort feels high early, I lean into it and trust that I can handle it. Instead of seeing pain as a negative, I see it as a normal part of every workout. It’s not something I should dread or judge, but an opportunity to work on my ability to handle difficult moments & doubt. It’s still a work in progress, but I’ve found that it keeps me from entering a negative mental spiral and allows me to get more from myself in training.
