The JSerra Athletic Administration is proud to announce Luciana Shafer (’08) as the second inductee into the JSerra Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

A standout outside hitter for the girls’ volleyball team, Shafer was among JSerra’s first exceptional athletes during the school’s early years. 

She earned All-Trinity League First Team honors in both 2006 and 2007—the inaugural seasons of JSerra Girls Volleyball in the Trinity League.

A four-year scholar-athlete, Shafer made history as JSerra’s first female athlete to compete at the NCAA Division I level, playing volleyball at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, before transferring to North Carolina State.

JSerra Principal Eric Stroupe, who taught Shafer during her time at the school, remembers her as both an outstanding student and a trailblazer for female athletes.

“I had the good fortune of teaching Luciana, and she was a dedicated student with a strong work ethic—qualities that carried over to the volleyball court,” Stroupe said. “As our first female athlete to compete at the Division I level, Luciana set a standard for future JSerra student-athletes. She truly embodied what it means to be a Lion.”

The JSerra Athletics Hall of Fame celebrates pioneers, legends, individuals, and teams who have played a foundational role in the school’s athletic legacy.

Shafer will be officially honored at the fifth annual JESPY Awards on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 5:30 p.m., at JSerra’s Football Field.
