If you’ve been to Woodmere, chances are you’ve noticed this beautiful and ornate chandelier which hangs above the original main entryway to the museum. 

This chandelier, produced in the nineteenth century by the German Meissen Porcelain manufactory, is part of the original collection of Woodmere’s founder, Charles Knox Smith.

This chandelier consists of nine scroll branches to contain 21 candle holders, and nine floral cluster drops, all attaching to the central lantern covered in leaves and flowers and which imitates a basket weave. Cupids with musical instruments and birds also adorn the surface. However, perhaps the most defining feature of the Meissen chandelier is the delicate floral ornamentation. Each porcelain flower was carefully designed to be one-of-a-kind.
