#WomensHistoryMonth: Dr. Tiffany Jefferson is a nationally acclaimed choreographer, educator and cultural storyteller who uses the power of dance to teach, preserve and elevate Black excellence. A native of Oklahoma City, she currently serves as director of dance at Hinds Community College, where she founded the institution’s first-ever dance program and continues to grow it as a model for Mississippi and the region.

A proud graduate of Jackson State University, Jefferson earned her Ph.D. in educational leadership with a focus on higher education, following a master’s degree in dance education from Wichita State University. She also received a bachelor's degree in business marketing from Oklahoma State University, where she was crowned Miss Black Oklahoma in 1996 and named an All-American collegiate cheerleader. Today, she continues to pour into the next generation. As a mentor and educator, she has trained students who have gone on to perform with Alvin Ailey, Cirque du Soleil, and on stages like the Super Bowl halftime show and the Grammys.

Jefferson remains deeply connected to her alma mater. At JSU, she has choreographed major theatrical productions, including The Wiz and The Color Purple, and appeared in the national award-winning JSU Day of Giving production “B.E.T. on JSU.”

Her commitment to movement extends beyond the stage, serving as dance ministry director at New Jerusalem Church and as an instructor at Dance Works Studio in Clinton. She is also the reigning Mrs. Mississippi American 2024, using her platform to uplift stories of purpose and perseverance.

She is a proud wife and mother. One of her three children, Jordan Jefferson, served as Jackson State University’s Student Government Association president from 2019 to 2020 and is a Rhodes Scholar finalist at Harvard. All of her children are dancers who have grown under her example of excellence, grace and faith.

Through every choreographed moment and every classroom lecture, Dr. Tiffany Jefferson is building legacy. She continues to shape the cultural landscape of Mississippi and beyond, embodying the strength, creativity and vision that define the essence of a Lady Tiger. #JSUAlums
