President Trump defended his ability to “round people up” for deportations without having to justify his administration’s actions to the courts.

The Trump administration is continuing its push to expand deportations of migrants in the country illegally as it fights multiple court battles in a wave of lawsuits challenging executive orders and a swift uptick in removals since President Donald Trump took office.

The administration has touted its arrests and deportations of suspected criminals and alleged gang members that have been a priority for the initial crackdown as it awaits more resources from Congress to expand its efforts.

The Department of Homeland Security said last week that nearly half of the people it has arrested in the first 50 days of the administration were convicted criminals and about one-third had pending criminal charges. Nearly 33,000 people have been taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement during that period.

Among them are suspected members of multinational gangs like MS-13 and Tren de Aragua, wanted for homicides and other violent crimes in their home countries and in the U.S.
