Apple Phyllo Crinkle Cake 🍎 It’s made with layers of flaky phyllo dough, apples, butter, a spiced custard and a cinnamon syrup for topping and it’s absolutely delicious! #ad RECIPE below 👇

This crinkle cake was Tiktok famous a few years ago and we can totally see why! It’s crispy, crunchy and caramelized on the exterior, but soft and custardy inside, and the apple slices add extra flavor and tartness.

The custard is the most important component of this recipe for both flavor and consistency! It’s made with dairy milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla and spices. You can also use lactose free milk for all the same benefits, but no lactose!

Milk is a great source of protein and vitamins so even when you’re indulging in this cake, you’re still getting the health benefits that real milk provides 🥛 gonnaneedmilk

20 oz phyllo dough
1 large apple, thinly sliced (~1/16”)
8 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Custard:

1 cup whole milk
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp cloves
2 eggs
2/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt

Syrup:

1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
2 cinnamon sticks

Preheat oven to 350˚F and line a 9x13” pan with parchment paper.

Using two sheets of phyllo dough at a time, fold them accordion style, then arrange in the baking dish. Arrange the apple slices evenly throughout the folds.

Bake for 10 mins, then drizzle evenly with melted butter, making sure it goes in all of the nooks and crannies. Bake for another 10 mins.

Meanwhile, add milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves to a small saucepan over medium low heat and whisk well to incorporate the spices. Let infuse for 5 minutes, then strain the milk into a bowl. You can skip the straining, but the spices end up pooling on top of the cake, which is why we strain.

Add in the eggs, sugar, vanilla and salt and whisk well. Pour over the cake, making sure it gets between the folds. Return to oven for 35-40 mins, until golden brown.
