As Invasive Species Awareness Week comes to a close, here’s one last PSA to those into water recreation. 🚤

In 2023, New Zealand mudsnails were found in Lake Tahoe and are notoriously difficult to detect due to their extremely small size (4 to 6 mm). Invasive to the United States, one snail and its offspring can result in more than 2.7 billion snails in four years – forming dense populations and displacing native spcies. Keep an eye out for them, they can easily be transported on fishing gear (waders, boots, boats, etc.).

How you can help: Clean, Drain and Dry.

CLEAN off visible aquatic plants, animals and mud from all equipment before leaving water access. DRAIN motor, bilge, livewell ande other water containing devices before leaving water access. Clean boat and gear with hot water or DRY everything for at least five days.
