If your kids used to love playdough, but now they poke at it for a few minutes before wandering off and asking for the ipad, I got you…
❄️It is the middle of winter and we are all looking for ways to keep kids playing with their toys, off devices and occupied, so when playdough gets boring, it is time to put back in the pizazz.
(🗣️Comment PIZAZZ and we will send you a list of our favorite playdough tools and accestories)
🔑The key? Tap into their developing skills and interests and pair that with playdough. Ditch the tired plastic pizza roller and the flimsy cookie cutters that came with the set. They used to be interesting, but not anymore.
➡️Think about what your child likes right now. Think about what your child is learning right now.
Twos: Try a wooden crab mallet for pounding. Or some big plastic animals for making foot prints with. Twos also love mimicking caregivers, so give their playdough a baking theme with a few small plates, a bowl and mixing spoon.
Threes: Three year olds love combining playdough with their pretend play scenarios, like making “food” for their stuffed animals or “building” houses for their toys. Give them some small animals, some toothpicks, and popsicle sticks.
Fours: Four year old playdough play is becoming more sophisticated and aligned with what they are working on in school. Try giving them some letter stamps and more grown up tools to work with like playdough knives, heavy duty cookie cutters, or loose parts like gems. They’d love a balance scale to work on weighing their creations and a clipboard for taking orders!
