Arctic Onslaught & Southern Winter Storm Potential? You’ve heard the buzz…here’s what we know: Yes, a significant cold air outbreak is likely next week(1/19-1/25). We will need to monitor a pipe-bursting freeze potential, especially inland areas away from the Gulf Coast. Strong cold front arrives early Sunday with wind chills in the lower teens possible by Monday morning.🥶 Have pipes wrapped by Sunday night as inland areas could see multiple nights below freezing. Coldest air arrives Tuesday-Thursday mornings. Yes, this is the type of setup favors a higher-than-normal wintry precipitation potential for someone in the southern United States. No, we don’t yet know exactly where, when & what type of frozen precipitation may occur(freezing rain, sleet, or snow.) In fact, this type of setup often favors “overrunning”, which can lead to larger zone of freezing rain & icing potential. That’s a whole bag of YUCK🧊. The bottom line? Models are still pinpointing how this potential winter storm will evolve & will it arrive when the coldest air is in place? There remain a plethora of different scenarios. However, the risk of an impactful winter storm is slowly increasing for someone in the Deep South, but the details remain frosty. Stay tuned. #winterstorm #southernsnow #snowday #icestorm
