A two-hour drive north of Toronto, Gravenhurst is rich in history. Incorporated in 1887, it was the first town in Muskoka. Its name is inspired by the book Gravenhurst: Or Thoughts on Good & Evil, though the area was once known as McCabe's Landing, after early settlers James McCabe and his wife, who led expeditions on Lake Muskoka.⁠ 📖⁠

Gravenhurst is home to the oldest operating steamship in North America, the RMS Segwun, along with the Wenonah II. These vessels, along with the town's history, can be explored at the Muskoka Discovery Centre.
