Every 12 years, the #KumbhMela takes place on the banks of the River Ganga in north India. This year, a Maha Kumbh event that occurs but once in 144 years—based on the relative positions of the sun, moon and planet Jupiter—is drawing well over 300 million devotees to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. They interact with sadhus, or Hindu ascetics, and immerse themselves in the holy river, which is believed to have the power to spiritually cleanse and purify. The magnetic energy of the waters is especially strong given the alignment of the stars, making this gathering an unmissable, once-in-many-lifetimes event for many.
