Me 🤝🏼 any and alllll carribean food - today I’ve finally tackled the Jamaican Beef patty 🇯🇲 I’ve grown up eating these and I had never made them myself until now!

PATTY DOUGH:
2 cup Flour
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
100g very cold butter
50g shortening
125ml cup cold water
2 tsp turmeric
½ tbsp curry powder

MEAT FILLING:
1 lb ground beef
1-2 scotch bonnet peppers
2 tbsp green seasoning
1 tbsp browning sauce
½ white onion
½ cup beef stock
4 stalks green onion
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
½ tbsp Dried thyme
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp all spice
½ tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
2 tsp paprika
2 tsp Sugar

DIRECTIONS:

1) blend white onion, scallion, scotch bonnet peppers, garlic cloves, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, browning, and beef stock into a smooth liquid.

2) In a pan on medium high heat, saute ground beef with oil and break into very small pieces. When the meat is halfway cooked, add the spice blend of dried thyme, garlic powder, all spice, salt, pepper, paprika, and sugar.

3) When the meat is mostly cooked through, pour in the wet mix and stir everything well until the beef is almost like a paste in texture.

4) Mix flour, sugar, salt, turmeric, curry powder, grated butter, shortening, and water into a well incorporated dough. Just kneads to be kneaded by hand a few minutes, don’t overwork the dough.

5) Wrap dough in plastic wrap and put in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes.

6) Remove and roll out till about a ¼ inch thick. Grate more cold butter on the dough then fold it over. Repeat once more. This will make the dough flakey.

7) Roll out 6 ocular shaped discs and scoop ⅓ of meat filling onto the dough. Brush egg wash on edges and pinch the ends to seal the patty with a fork. Bake at 375 for 25-30 minutes and enjoy :)))
