Cowell: Founded in 1965, Cowell was the first residential college of UCSC. Cowell has focused not on a theme or a specific set of disciplines, but on a motto: The Pursuit of Truth in the Company of Friends. Cowell resides on what was previously the Cowell ranch, flanked by redwoods and over-looking the Monterey Bay. It is also near the University restaurants, gym, libraries, pool, track, and Bay Tree bookstore.

Stevenson: Founded in 1966, Stevenson is one of the first colleges at UCSC. They are located on a hill overlooking the beautiful Monterey Bay, close to the University restaurants and shops, library, pool, track, and gym. Their theme, “Self and Society,” emphasizes the goals of both self-understanding and active participation in one‘s community.

College 9: College Nine strives to provide a rich living and learning environment for its residents and to support them in becoming global citizens. The college’s theme of “International and Global Perspectives” provides exciting co-curricular opportunities for residents to explore while living in the community. College Nine is located in a central location on campus.  We are 5-10 minutes (walking distance) from campus recreational activities (OPERS), the UCSC Bookstore, and the Student Union. 

Merrill: Merrill College’s theme, Cultural Identities and Global Consciousness, helps students to understand the nature of cultural identity by examining the relationships between societies of the world and their struggles to preserve their cultures.

Crown: Crown College’s theme, Science, Technology, and Society, explores the relationship of science and technology with the world around us, including both the positive and negative impacts of technology on our environment and social institutions.
