Our Most Interesting People of 2023 are taking the city by storm, leading in politics, fashion, dining, entertainment and more. They are the New Guard, and they are leading Cleveland into a bright future one day at a time. 

Rebecca Maurer is the first openly LGBTQ woman to serve on the city council. One of her goals includes amending language in certain policies to specify the needs of the community better.

Gabe Wasylko fell deeper into the world of photography during the pandemic and hasn’t looked back. He leads social media for Destination Cleveland, not to mention having tens of thousands of social media followers of his work.

Gabe Pollack is the director of performing arts at Cleveland Museum of Art. He took over in October and inherited programs like the well-loved City Stages series.

Steven Kwan quickly became one of the fans’ favorites for the Guardians. The rookie was the driving force behind a quick start that eventually saw the baseball team make the playoffs and advance one round.

Jason Russell, a senior developer for Bedrock, envisions a transformed downtown with his work on the multi-billion dollar riverfront development project.
