Duck Summer Jobs: Andrew Archer 🦆💼

Prior to starting his third-year at @oregon_law, Andrew received a scholarship to attend a program through UC Davis and the National Science Foundation to study international approaches to groundwater and drought management. “The program brought together ten graduate students from across the country, all studying in different fields, but having a common nexus in groundwater and drought research,” Andrew said. Through this program, Andrew traveled to central California, northern Spain, and the Netherlands. “We learned about each country’s water policy and hydrologic conditions and compared/contrasted them with Central California.”

This opportunity reaffirmed Andrew’s decision to attend law school and pursue a career in water law and policy after graduation. “It left me feeling inspired and energized entering my last year of school at UO. In addition, it exposed me to the wide array of work being done in this field and, with that, the ample opportunities that exist to make an impact,” Andrew said.

Andrew’s advice to other students, especially those seeking a career in the legal field, is to “seek ways to engage with other students or professionals who are not in the legal field but are working on similar issues. In my experience, it offered a perspective that I wouldn’t have received from my law school courses, and I am confident that it will make me a better lawyer because of it.”
