Delivered new to Australia, this 1922 Ballot 2LS Three-Seater Skiff Tourer boasts an extensive in-period competition history and a well-documented ownership lineage from new. Originally purchased at the 1923 Paris Motor Show by two New South Wales farmers, the car was later acquired by Daniel Vincent Clifton, who entered it into Australian racing events. It saw success in the late 1920s under Dick Clark and Ron MacKellar, achieving notable results in speedway and endurance trials. By the 1930s, the Ballot’s competitive edge waned, leading to its retirement. After passing through several owners, the car was stored for decades before Dr. W. E. Southgate undertook a comprehensive restoration in the 1970s, actively racing it in historic events for nearly 30 years.⁠

In 2006, a well-known motoring journalist acquired ‘43’ and commissioned a meticulous rebuild, preserving elements of its Callow & Sadler body while crafting a new replica skiff body using period-correct Kelsch components. The restoration, completed in the early 2010s, included extensive mechanical work, ensuring the Ballot’s authenticity and performance. The car has since participated in prestigious events, including the 2nd International Ballot Rally and Motorclassica, and was exhibited at the 2024 Hampton Court Concours. Accompanied by an extensive historical archive, this rare Ballot remains a significant piece of automotive history, blending early Grand Prix engineering with a rich racing heritage.⁠
