It’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month…
I was a child that lived in a household with a father that struggled with alcoholism, narcissistic personality disorder, and bipolar disorder. I am making a post about my childhood because this is no joke and I still have trauma to this day because of it. I wholeheartedly believe that if myself, my brother, and my mom would’ve stayed, we would have been on a murder documentary. That is the ONLY reason I am making this post, to hopefully save someone else from making the mistake of staying in a dangerous situation and just barely surviving. Life is so much more than just surviving, you’re supposed to LIVE. If you’re religious and don’t believe in divorce, let me give you some advice. God says that you are supposed to submit to your husband IF and ONLY IF they treat you like God treats the church (in other words, respectfully and lovingly). I know if you are in this situation that you’ve probably been threatened with countless things as to what would happen if you left but they only want you to be scared so they feel like they have control over you. We left our home in the spur of a moment because that’s the only choice we had. When he has out of town we packed our small car full of clothes that we could fit and drove to my mom’s family but if you don’t have family you could stay with, trust me there are shelters out there that would take you in in a heartbeat so try your best to not be scared and get out. We had no plan whatsoever, my mom didn’t have a job but she figured it all out once she could think clearly and I can PROMISE you that leaving that toxic environment will be worth it.
