Earlier this morning my brother Elijah brought it to my attention that today is a day I should never forget. It’s  been 10 years since I beat testicular cancer. I was just 15 years old, a freshman in high school, when I got hit with that diagnosis. At that age, cancer was the last thing on my mind. While most kids were focused on sports, school, and just being teenagers, I was making regular trips to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I had to sacrifice a lot—time, energy, and normal high school experiences—but I knew what I was fighting for.
The road wasn’t easy. There were hard days, physically and mentally. But I pushed through with the support of my family, the doctors, and a whole lot of faith. And today, I’m proud to say I’ve been cancer-free for 10 years.
I share this to raise awareness—fellas, check yourselves. For real. Testicular cancer is something a lot of young men don’t think about, but it’s real and it’s serious. Catching it early can save your life. Don’t be afraid to check yourself regularly and don’t skip out on doctor visits. It’s not soft—it’s smart.
I’m grateful for life, for health, and for this journey. If my story can inspire even one person to get checked or to keep fighting, then I’m doing my part.
