glamourmag’s #WomenOfTheYear is such a tremendously special night. To be a part of it, and to be in community with so many people using their voices, their art, their stories — and even turning their pain into purpose — to make this world a better place? It’s so affirming. So impactful. And so joyous. I think we all need joy right now.

From the Mothers to the activists, and many who are both. The athletes to the artists. The singers to the authors. It was perfect. kelseaballerini serenaded us. freestyleplus_ rapped for us — and GOT me with the #OTH shout out! And it was my absolute honor to present to two of my personal heroes: Kaitlyn Joshua and Hadley Duvall.

As I said in my remarks last night, “it’s some bullshit that our reproductive rights are on the ballot in 2024. But our collective power scares the historically powerful, so they’re trying to roll back our rights. It’s our job to get those rights back. Since Roe fell, women have been prosecuted for having a miscarriage. Denied care during a miscarriage. Left unable to get pregnant again because they were refused treatment in the midst of loss. Denied the choice to terminate an unwanted pregnancy in their own home states. And as we know, women have lost their lives because their doctors thought they could be jailed for treating them. We cannot allow this to continue. 

We are stronger than fear. We are stronger than misinformation. Courageous women — who have shared their stories — are capable of changing the future for the rest of us. We are honored two of these changemakers last night. 

I hate that women are forced to repeat their trauma in order for their humanity to be recognized, but these women have, in hopes that their stories will prevent the rest of us from this same suffering. Two miscarriages. Two kinds of heartbreak. Two women who became two accidental activists. Kaitlyn and Hadley’s willingness to share the most intimate details of their lives - at the DNC, in speeches, on social media, with Oprah - may help restore reproductive freedom for all of us. They do it for those who don’t have a voice, and inspire every single one of us to fight.”
