Mastin Walks It Off In Dramatic Fashion

The Riverwood Raiders and Sequoyah Chiefs squared off in Game 1 at Raider Park Tuesday Night, with Junior Isaac Mastin leading the charge for the Raiders on the mound. Mastin was dominant the first time through the order seeing the minimum, with the Raider offense showing some life in the 2nd inning following a leadoff single by Senior Robert Hicks, an RBI double down the left field line by Senior Marco Nuñez, and a bunt single by Senior Cole Williams. The Raiders looked to throw up a crooked number on the board but only managed one run. 

The game headed to the 4th inning with the score 1-0 with the Raiders ahead and Mastin cruising. However, the Chiefs were far from being finished and erupted for four runs in the top of the 4th to take a 4-1 lead. With the game seemingly getting away from the Raiders, Senior Gavin Braun came up clutch with a 2-out RBI single to left field to make the score 4-2 after 4 innings. In the bottom of the 5th, Nuñez erased the deficit with a 2-out 2 RBI double to right-center for the Rhodes College Commit. 

With the score tied at 4-4, Mastin continued to lead the charge on the bump, shutting the Chiefs hitters down in the 6th and 7th innings of work, giving the Raiders an opportunity to win it in the bottom of the 7th inning. With the pressure on the Chiefs, Junior Bennett Sirlin roped a single to center field to put a runner on first and bringing Mastin up to plate with an opportunity to play “Hero Ball”. Mastin stroked a top-spun line drive to left field that got by a diving outfielder and rolled all the way to the wall. Mastin cruised into third while Sirlin strolled across the plate for a Walk-Off winner once again for the Raiders! Final: Raiders-5 Chiefs-4
