Join us on Wednesday, March 20 for an artist talk and creative workshop on the topic of prison abolition with award-winning Chicago-based interdisciplinary artist @maria__gaspar. We’ll serve abolitionist punch made by New Orleans-based artist and activist jackie sumell.

📍 Location: Buchwald-Wright Gallery

Join us to participate in Maria Gaspar’s ongoing “Disappearance Jail” project on view at The Gund through April 13, 2024.

“Disappearance Jail” is an archive of more than 400 images of jails, prisons, and detention centers across the US. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gaspar started carefully perforating the images with a hole punch to “remove” the institutions. The Gund commissioned Gaspar to produce a series of images featuring carceral system facilities in Ohio. During her visit, Gaspar will conduct a workshop in which you will be invited to “disappear” or “undo” facilities by perforating them.
