Spartan community,

After a thorough review of local weather conditions and information available through the National Weather Service, university leadership and the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety have made the decision to maintain the regular schedule of classes and campus operations for Tuesday, January 21, 2025. CATA will continue to operate as normal.

Classes and campus operations will continue as normal, and faculty, staff and students should take necessary steps to ensure protection against the elements when traveling to class and work. This includes paying close attention to the latest weather forecasts, current temperatures, wind chill, emergency alerts and dressing appropriately. As a reminder, please review the information below to help stay safe.

Tips for Staying Safe:
- Limit time outdoors. If outdoors, wear several layers of warm clothing and watch for signs of frostbite or hypothermia.
- Frostbite symptoms: Numbness, loss of feeling, pale or waxy skin, especially on the nose, ears, fingers, and toes.
- Hypothermia symptoms: Shivering, exhaustion, confusion, slurred speech, or drowsiness. Drinking alcohol increases the risk of hypothermia

Tips for Safe Travel:
- Carefully plan trips, avoiding long periods of time outdoors.
- If driving, have a cell phone charger in the car and consider packing a small cold weather kit including a blanket, bottled water, snacks, a flashlight, battery-powered radio, extra batteries and a first-aid kit.
- Be aware of slippery road conditions; even after crews have been out there may still be patches of ice snow on the roads and sidewalks.

The MSU DPPS will be monitoring the weather closely over the next several days and will keep the Spartan community apprised of any changes that may result in reduced or modified operations or potential impacts to class schedules. One way to stay informed is by enrolling to receive all emergency notifications from MSU Police and Public Safety via MSU Alert Notifications (alert.msu.edu).

 Stay safe!
