Color Of Change is serious about change in the justice system nationwide. Racial profiling, over-policing, and excessive force have claimed the lives of many in our community, including George Floyd. Now, five years after his murder, the Minneapolis City Council has decided to approve an agreement to make major police department reforms.

The agreement, called a consent decree, has been under negotiation since 2023, when the DOJ critiqued the Minneapolis police department's egregious violence and discrimination. Even before the murder of George Floyd, the department targeted people of color with excessive force and violated their rights. This decree aims to finally hold the Minneapolis PD accountable to their community.

There is much more to be done. We deserve a fair and equitable justice system, not one that systemically targets Black people. Regardless of the outcome of the election, Color Of Change is committed to standing for change in this area all 2025, and we hope you will join us as we #CommitToJustice.
